International Society of Arboriculture
. The mission of SMA is to protect and sustain community forests. They strive to improve the quality of resources and support services made available to urban foresters, municipal arborists, and other relevant landscaping professionals.
The organization holds an annual conference and publishes educational materials. All members and member organizations must adhere to a code of professional ethics. This code of ethics promotes the values of integrity, fiscal responsibility, and honesty. Additionally, all members implicitly agree to stay up-to-date on the latest techniques and methodology in the field.
Accreditation
The Society of Municipal Arborists offers an accreditation program as well. Individual forestry programs and municipalities are eligible to apply. They must meet strict criteria to achieve and maintain the accredited status. Adherence to all local and federal laws is expected, in addition to compliance with SMA’s code of ethics and all industry safety standards.
